Audiences in Taiwan fell in love with this 2008 film, pushing it to become the second-highest grossing film in their country, second to only Titanic
The story revolves around Aga, a band singer, who returns home to Hengchun, a southern Taiwanese town, with frustration after not finding success in Taipei.  He is forced to become the town’s postman by his step-father, a prominent politician.  One day he comes across an undeliverable piece of mail, letters penned by a teacher in the 1940s to his love expressing his regrets over leaving to go home to Japan.Despite being determined to find the letter’s final destination or rightful owner, he is called upon to be a part of a local warm-up band for a super star beach concert. Little does Aga know, the letters will bring him closer to reconnecting with his love for music and bring him closer to finding a relationship of his own.
The relationship of the townspeople to Hengchun very much resembles that of Western New Yorkers to Buffalo.
